Job Description

The Red team takes on the Blue team in a bargain hunt. Both teams have £300 and one hour at a fair to buy antiques which they have to sell at auction, hopefully making money into the bargain.

That’s Bargain Hunt, presented by a team of antiques experts.

Once the teams have shopped for their antiques, the experts go shopping with any leftover money. Their purchases are ‘bonus buys’ and each team has to decide whether or not to take their expert’s item to the auction. But there’s a catch! Just because it has been bought by an expert doesn’t mean that it’s going to make money – it’s a gamble all round.

Before the sale, our presenter and the auctioneer discuss the chances of each item making or losing money for the teams. The teams get to keep the difference between what they spend on an item and the hammer price at the auction house, so it’s all to play for as the auction begins.

To Apply
Apply online

We love to receive applications from enthusiastic viewers who are keen to appear on the show. If you’re game, please take a few minutes to fill in the online application form at the bottom of this section, taking care to complete all fields, as this will increase your chances of being successful.

Please note that both you and your team-mate must be aged 18 or over. There is no upper age limit so long as you’re fit for the challenge. Applicants must not be employees of the BBC, nor have worked recently for, or with the BBC.

As we’re a small team working on a programme that is broadcast daily, we regret that we don’t have the time to reply to every application individually. If your application is successful at the initial stage you’ll receive a call for an informal telephone interview a few weeks before filming. This could be several months, or even a year after submitting your application. Finally, if you’re successful in reaching the last stage of the process, we’ll meet you face-to-face and try to match good pairings of teams for each programme.

If you have a general query about Bargain Hunt or what happens on filming days, our frequently asked questions might provide the answer you need.

We wish you the best of luck!
